Aardvark

Aardvark: n. African mammal that eats ants.”

Magician once said,

“I want a new animal

To add to my zoo.”

His animals gathered ’round

“Can we help?

Let us. Let us, do!”

Magician rubbed his hands in glee,

“I’ll take a little from each

And then we’ll see what we see.”

He borrowed:

Ears from rabbit

Snout from pig

Snake for a tongue

And bear’s claws to dig.

He molded it together

Put every hair in place

Then stepped back to look

In his new creation’s face.

“You’re just what I wanted,

Right on the mark!

Welcome home, my little aardvark.”

And now it’s your turn. I chose to do a children’s poem today, but remember you are free to employ any form of creative writing your heart desires, be that a scene, description, short story (let’s limit to no more than a page or so- 300ish words- if you go that route since I’m committed to reading every comment), poem, character sketch, whatever! The only rule is you have to use the Dictionary word at least once. And the idea is not to labor over this or worry about perfection. I wrote mine in about half an hour, to give you an example. Fun, fast, creative outflow. That’s the goal. I look forward to reading your fabulous creations!
